ABOUT THE EVENT
Enjoy original music written by some of Norfolk County’s most talented songwriters and musicians at the Sandplains Serenade. The concert is performed by the Sandplains Pickers, comprised of country and bluegrass favourites Darrin and Alison Schott, local singer and songwriter Ian Bell, and bass player Matt Rait. In concert, the members of this versatile band trade off on vocals, guitars, fiddles, mandolins, banjos, harmonica, concertina, and string bass. Look forward to some great three-part harmony singing as well.
The songs include some great originals by Ian, Darrin and Alison as well a few by other local songwriters including Bruce “House” Milner and even the The Band’s Rick Danko. The group’s songs paint a picture of Norfolk from Backus Mill, tobacco kilns and curemen’s shacks to the Summer Garden dancehall, motorcycles and Port Dover fishermen. The show includes a few traditional tunes as well. This is a truly local celebration of our past and present – not to mention a good opportunity to laugh, cry and tap your toes!
As a special added bonus, photos and aerial drone videos of Port Dover and Norfolk County by Tim Warris will be shown on a big screen during the performance.
The Sandplains Serenade kicks off the Norfolk 150 Celebration of Culture. All ticket holders will receive a weekend event passport with their admission, granting access to performances and attractions in Port Dover, Simcoe, Port Rowan, Delhi, and Waterford on September 23 & 24.
