Create Build Grow Is Lighthouse Theatre’s annual campaign that addresses three areas where Lighthouse is continuing to improve. With a gift to the Create Build Grow fund, you are helping design a future for the arts.
First, let’s take a look at what you made happen in 2017:
Rehearsal Times Increased
• 2 of 5 Main Season Shows had 3 full weeks of rehearsal
• 2 of 5 Main Season Shows had 2.5 weeks of rehearsal
• 1 Main Season Show had 2 weeks of rehearsal
Lighthouse Festival Theatre sees two major opportunities for improvement and expansion of our resources, in order to better support Canadian artists’ work. First, in further investment in rehearsal time and second, in continuing to support new work through our Playwright Commissioning Program.
Rehearsal Time & New Rehearsal Hall
Did you know that last year, during the launch of Create Build Grow you supported extended rehearsal times to nearly all of our shows? Well, this year, we reached our goal again. Every show at Lighthouse now has 3 full weeks of rehearsal! This means that each production receives 20 days of rehearsal as opposed from the 14-17 in previous years. Bringing you and other Canadians phenomenal professional live theatre.
Not only did you bring more rehearsal time to Lighthouse, but you also made the brand new rehearsal hall a reality! Located in Port Dover, the new rehearsal hall serves as a safe, reliable and functional space that will allow artists to create Canadian theatre for many years to come.
In our second year of Create Build Grow, we want to ensure that in the upcoming years, the main seasons will continue to have 3 weeks of rehearsal for good so we can continue to bring you live theatre thrills every summer.
Through Lighthouse’s Playwright Commissioning Program (formerly the annual Playwright’s Festival), 43 new plays have been created since 1998. Of those, 21 have gone on to Main Stage productions at Lighthouse. Looking ahead, Lighthouse aims to enhance it’s commitment to new and established playwrights, by providing a supportive artistic environment, dedicated to their creative journey and success. By supporting new Canadian productions, you are feeding the well of unique experiences for patrons from all over Canada to enjoy.
Buildings were built
• A bright, clean and functional space for rehearsals was built in the heart of Port Dover on Main Street
• This dedicated space is now a safe, reliable and nurturing environment for the creation of Canadian theatre for many years to come
• Acts as a hub of activity for various community endeavours
Lighthouse Festival Theatre believes in continuous improvement both on and off the stage. Every incremental step in this direction leads to even better experiences for artists and audiences – and that’s what we’re here for!
You may have noticed some big changes happening at Lighthouse; specifically, that construction has begun on the front entryway.
The existing front entryway did not represent the creative work being done at Lighthouse. With these current renovations, we will be increasing accessibility, security, and building an open space for patrons to come together. We believe that the exterior of the theatre should reflect the high-level of professionalism that we bring to the Lighthouse stage.
Our impact grew – the 2017 numbers don’t lie.
As a theatre, year after year we continue to grow. As Lighthouse improves its operations, its economic impact follows suit. This benefits more than just Haldimand-Norfolk, as it stimulates Ontario’s economy and Canada’s theatre community as a whole.
Lighthouse believes in continuous improvements on and off the stage. Every incremental step in this direction leads to even better experiences for artists and audiences. Moving forward, we want Lighthouse to always Create Build Grow.
