Lighthouse Festival Code of Conduct

Intent


Lighthouse Festival Theatre Corporation is committed to providing a safe, inclusive, and respectful work environment for all employees, volunteers, artists, renters and patrons. This policy outlines the expected standards of behaviour and professional conduct for all parties in support of our values, legal responsibilities, and overall organizational culture. It is intended to reinforce existing policies and procedures, such as those regarding workplace harassment, conflict resolution, health and safety, and the responsible use of organizational resources.  

This policy is designed to help foster a positive, accountable workplace that supports both operational effectiveness and a welcoming environment for everyone who engages with our theatre. 

Scope


This policy applies to all employees, contractors, and volunteers of Lighthouse Festival Theatre, including full-time, part-time, casual, contract, renters, seasonal staff, and artists. Everyone is expected to contribute to a professional and welcoming environment for artists, patrons and other collaborators. 

Guiding Principles


Honesty in all communications is a fundamental value of Lighthouse Festival Theatre.

Examples of honesty may include reporting mistakes, giving honest feedback, and being truthful in communications.  Examples of dishonesty may include lying, misrepresentation, or withholding information. Lighthouse encourages open dialogue and feedback, creating a safe environment for employees and volunteers to share concerns. 

Everyone must:

  • Be truthful and accurate in all communications, both internally and externally, and should avoid making false or misleading statements.  
  • Treat colleagues, artists, volunteers, patrons, and the public with respect, integrity, honesty and professionalism. 
  • Support a safe, inclusive, and equitable workplace, free from harassment, bullying, or discrimination. 
  • Adhere to all relevant legislation and company policies, including the Ontario Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA), Ontario Human Rights Code, and AODA. 
  • Contribute to a collaborative, service-oriented, and artist-friendly environment in support of Lighthouse Festival Theatre’s mission

Respectful, Safe, and Inclusive Workplace 

Lighthouse is committed to a workplace free from:

  • Harassment (including sexual, racial, and personal harassment) 
  • Discrimination on the basis of any protected ground under Ontario law 
  • Workplace violence, threats, or intimidation 
  • Retaliation for reporting concerns in good faith 

Everyone is expected to:  

  • Immediately report concerns through the appropriate channels 
  • Support an environment that is inclusive and welcoming to all employees, artists, volunteers, and patrons 

Professionalism and Core Workplace Expectations

Everyone must:  

  • Report to work punctually and be present during their scheduled hours 
  • Communicate with professionalism, courtesy, and cooperation across all departments and locations 

Collaboration and Communication 

Everyone is expected to: 

  • Foster open, respectful communication and cooperation 
  • Seek constructive solutions when conflicts arise  
  • Share information appropriately with colleagues and staff 
  • Respect the roles and contributions of other team members, including seasonal or contract staff and volunteers 

Substance Use and Fitness for Duty 

To ensure a safe and productive work environment, LFTC expects everyone to: 

  • Report to work fit for duty and capable of performing their responsibilities 
  • Not be under the influence of alcohol, cannabis, or other impairing substances during work hours 

Use of Company Property and Equipment 

Everyone must: 

  • Use LFTC equipment, supplies, and spaces only for work-related purposes, unless authorized 
  • Immediately report any damage, malfunction, or safety hazard 
  • Not attempt to repair, operate, or alter equipment without permission 

Digital and Public Representation 

When representing LFTC in digital or public contexts, everyone must: 

  • Not post confidential, defamatory, or disparaging content about LFTC, colleagues, or partners 
  • Ensure that personal social media accounts do not appear to speak on behalf of LFTC unless explicitly authorized 

Reporting and Accountability 

Everyone is responsible for: 

  • Understanding and upholding the principles outlined in this policy 
  • Reporting violations or misconduct promptly through the appropriate staff 
  • Cooperating fully with any investigations conducted under this or related policies 

Violations of this Code of Conduct may result in disciplinary action. Such as the cancellation of your event.
